Do you want to wear shorts and mini skirts and show off your well shaped legs but are embarrassed by unsightly bulging varicose veins and spider veins? Better have more room in your closet for sexy get-ups because you will be wearing them soon.
For men and women suffering from the condition, varicose vein treatment is a welcome development. Varicose vein treatment is more than just for aesthetics actually. Varicose veins cause throbbing pain or cramping in the legs which may get worse after sitting or standing for a long time. There is swelling and the legs may feel heavy. Often, there is restless leg syndrome and, in severe cases, darkening of the skin.
Larger and raised varicose veins put much pressure on the leg. Complications such as clotting, pigmentation, and bleeding may happen. Also, the soft fatty lawyer of tissue near the ankle may become hard and lumpy, causing woody leg syndrome (lipodermatosclerosis). Leg ulcer may result from the breakdown of the skin in the lower leg.
Varicose veins won’t fade away without treatment and in fact may even worsen over time. Varicose vein treatment is definitely a must if you want relief from varicose vein symptoms. Latest varicose vein treatment procedures include Endovenous Laser Ablation (ELA) and Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS). Sclerotherapy, another varicose vein treatment option, has been successfully used since the 1930s.
ELA works by using laser light to seal the incompetent underlying veins that may become varicose veins. Performed under local anaesthetic, this varicose vein treatment involves inserting a small laser fibre into the underlying incompetent vein. The fibre is then withdrawn while at the same time activating the laser, causing the vein to thermally ablate and close. The fact that this procedure has a hundred per cent success rate makes it the most preferred among varicose vein treatment options.
UGS works like a charm for both first-time varicose vein patients and those who experience a recurrence of varicose veins after surgery. A non-surgical varicose vein treatment, UGS uses ultrasound imaging to locate incompetent underlying veins. A “sclerosing solution” is then injected into the blood vessel. UGS may be used in conjunction with ELA to effectively treat varicose veins.
Sclerotherapy is another non-surgical varicose vein treatment that requires no anaesthesia. Veins of all sizes can be treated using this procedure which requires a small amount of ‘sclerosing solution’ to be injected into the unwanted leg veins. This causes the vein’s lining to become irritated and eventually collapse, closing the vein. The varicose vein fades over a period of weeks. This procedure has a 90 per cent success rate, making it a very popular varicose vein treatment option.
Before proceeding you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practiotioner.
